IANAD, and my memory's imperfect, but I think the most pain is when the stones are just passing into the duct and spasming happens in an attempt to get them the hell out of there. So, once the stone has passed fully into the duct, pain might go away or lessen.

Unfortunately I can't easily find the good Internet sites and other sources that I got some info from, but I do remember that my blockage happened after several days during which the pain continued (previously it had lasted in bouts of several hours, not days), though not always at the same intensity.

The first obvious symptom was darkening urine that became orangeish or light-brown, the next symptom was "clay-colored" stools (essentially the bile isn't going to the intestines and it's what causes a lot of the fecal color, so stool color gets lighter). I then decided it was time to check the whites of my eyes, and they did seem to be starting to yellow.

If the urine lightens up and it was dark because of duct blockage then it probably means the stone passed on its own (in my case I had to have a procedure done to remove the stone from the duct, and several weeks later had the gallbladder removed so it wouldn't happen again). But if it is persisting and you have any of the other symptoms, then I think you should look into it, pain or no pain. You don't want to risk permanent liver damage.

Good luck. I can imagine that a limited diet would cause some problems too, but I don't know much about that.
