Heh. I've always loved the artwork style. It was the first thing that made me want to play the game.

I especially like the fact that the cut scenes look identical to the rest of the game. I *hate* Final Fantasy's super-glossy cut scenes with a passion!

And hey, it's localised into British English ;)
