hosue warming

After much delay and faffage, we are pleased to announce a date for our house warming party. It is:
Saturday 16th October, from 5pm onwards

Events will include:
CAKE!
Multiplayer console games (console to be decided).
Write your own obscene fridge poetry (after 8pm).
Some kind of board game (probably Cranium, as that works well in teams and doesn't require too much brain).
Fluxx and/or other card games (to be decided, & depending on what people bring).
Striptease by [livejournal.com profile] wuzzie[*].
Waffles & ice-cream.

* Party will go on in 4 rooms including the kitchen, so there will be some rooms with music and/or games and others that are quiet for talking. Lots of space means you can also clump into little cliques and not talk to anyone outside your social group, if you want ;)
* No smoking anywhere on pain of pain (non-consensual). If you want to smoke, you can go and stand on the pavement, and we will laugh at you (especially if it's raining).
* Vast quantities of junk food will be provided, mostly vegan. Would appreciate prior notification of food allergies, especially anyone who is allergic to soy/soya or severely gluten intolerant.
* Soft drinks will be provided but you'll have to bring your own alcohol.
* Kids welcome until 8pm.
* Parking nearby is extremely limited until 6.30pm & costs us money. It's free after 6.30.
* We live ~10 minutes walk (downhill) from Norbiton railway station or ~10 minutes walk (flat) from either of the Kingston bus stations.

Are you coming?

... sick-cloths, mops, edible toys, baby books...

And Linnea is soya-intolerant as well as dairy-intolerant, but not allergic so it's only a medium-sized deal rather than a large one.

But I have no idea whether we'll really make it or not. I'd like to, obviously.

I can probably do something with oat milk, & I might even be able to get oat ice cream if I start trying now. While I've heard of a lot of people who have issues with both dairy and soy, I'd be quite surprised if she had problems with oat as well. Especially as it's going through you first.

I need to take the product information leaflets down to our friendly local healthfood shop, but after that I can pass them on to you. Or if you don't mind me giving your name & address to the manufacturers, I can get them to send you the information directly, along with a list of any shops near you that already stock it.

If she has an issue with oats, my porridge-for-breakfast routine of the past 4 months might be changing... So no, I don't think she has. But to be honest, I generally just avoid dairy-centric food, rather than trying to substitute. But if you find oat ice-cream, I wanna know all about it.

Go ahead and give them all my info. We still don't know if we'll be coming.

Re: TENS machine: I used one during labour and it saved my life; they were saying "epilepsy" because they didn't want to admit it could be Yet Another Stress Reaction. But I would be very surprised if it would help with perineal pain; I will ask when I next speak to a doctor.

Just to clarify, while I am, of course, usually in the right country, on that date I won't be unfortunately (I will be in Japan).

JAPAN?!!!

*jealous*

Can I give you a list of games I'm after?

Are you going anywhere near the Pokemon Center? :D

Haven't actually worked out what I'm doing after the conference, which I really should seeing as it's only 10 days away. Haven't booked hotel yet, let alone thought about asking people if there's anything they might want... but now you've saved me the trouble of asking... :)

Based on a bit of googling, it seems the Pokemon Center is in Tokyo, and I'll be there for nearly a week, so I imagine I might go somewhere near it. I'm sure I could bring stuff back (within reasonable levels of time/expenditure/weight) if you give me good instructions (I should have internet access there anyway...)

[identity profile] baratron.livejournal.com 2004-09-28 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
There are multiple Pokemon Centers in Japan. Bloody Nintendo. The US gets one, Japan gets four, Europe gets none. Bastards.

The Tokyo one is here (http://www.pokemoncenter-online.com/html/shop_tokyo.html). Babelfish is refusing to translate the page or indeed anything on the site for some reason - it keeps trying to look up www.$host.com ?!

I'll email you about $stuff... commenting here would get excessively lengthy I feel :)

I am already booked that day, but for an ongoing casual craft get-together which begins early afternoon, so I could probably manage to get to your party too, later in the evening. I'll work it our nearer the time - it will mostly depend on transport and on how I feel on the day.

Of course, if my brother decides to celebrate his birthday on Saturday (it's actually on the Sunday) then all bets are off :)

If I come I'd bring my darling with me (there wasn't an option to tick), but I'm not sure about getting to South West London. Anyway if we do, we'll bring Aimee's favourite vegan vanilla ice cream - it would be great to see you all again!

[identity profile] baratron.livejournal.com 2004-09-28 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose I figured that any humans-with-livejournals would be able to tick their own boxes :) SW London's not that scary, is it?

Is your gf vegan, or dairy-intolerant, or something else?

[identity profile] elfgeek.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I didn't show her the post, but I can still do that.
Haha, no it's not scary I was just thinking whether to drive and be very flexible. But I don't want the hassle of fighting for a parking space, so if we do come it'll be bus/tube.
Aimee is vegetarian, but she really likes this ice cream which is dairy free. She used to be vegan.

[identity profile] baratron.livejournal.com 2004-09-28 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Bring them? :)

Only half-joking, as I expect the party to be reasonably civilised up to about 9ish...

it's very unlikley that'll i'll be able to come because the week before is insanley busy and i'll proably be totally crashed by then. But i do have to be in London the next monday morning (for optometry) so it's very vaguey possible i might be staying with my parents for that whole weekend and could be around. (if i did come i'd proably bring some almond milk if that was acceptable to you as i am soya intolerant and just not that keen on oat milk).

Anyway i hope you and whoever does end up going have a very enjoyable housewarming

Please accept my apologies. I just replied to your poll with one of my RPing journals instead of my 'real' one. You may now laugh.

Ah, I'd been trying to work out who that was!

Reassured now :)

I'll bring the other two from HOP ... probably some real milk for tea/coffee etc. ... maybe Scrabble, if I can find it ... I ticked MEAT not because I am planning to bring meat as such, but because any food I might bring would probably not be vegetarian or vegan. (or at least not guaranteed as such) Then again, I could bring some frankfurter sausages and some finger rolls for hot dogs - if that would be acceptable?

[identity profile] baratron.livejournal.com 2004-10-12 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry too much about bringing milk - Richard remains thoroughly omnivorous, and I am not allergic to dairy products in my fridge :) If you want to bring some hot dogs feel free - I haven't really thought about hot food yet but it'll probably be tomato pasta, with chicken and salad available as extra or alternative.

We own Scrabble but tend not to play it at parties because we know lots of dyslexics or bad spellers who get intimidated by it, although in a house this size it should be much easier to have different activities so people can avoid things they don't want to do. If you wanted to bring your Scrabble set we could maybe do some sort of complicated 8 player variant - for some reason that is appealing to me quite a lot ;D
