baratron: (introspection)

le meep

I feel like ick. Am tired and paranoid and feeling entirely unable to cope. (As opposed to actually being entirely unable to cope - I think you probably understand the difference). Fortunately, several other body symptoms are adding up to make me realise I'm "just" premenstrual, and the date confirms this. Hooray.

Things are not helped by the fact I woke up this morning to the smell of delicious hot bread - our shiny new breadmaker has a timer function, which lets you put together the mixture and leave it overnight, and it starts itself going at yuck o'clock so that the bread is fresh and warm for you at the time you need to get up. However, I was clearly not very with it when I put the mix together last night, as I managed to give it the right quantities of everything except the flour, which only got 200g instead of 400g. Thus, while the whole house smelt of delicious fresh bread, there was no delicious fresh bread to be had - only a soggy mess of burnt dough which I couldn't even consider eating. So I've had to wash everything out and do a new mix of the right quantities, which also means waiting several hours for the new bread to bake while I'm already awake and hungry. Eurgh.

it seems like there's a lot of meepyness going around. Hope you feel better soon.
Are you going to Bifest?

I don't think I can get to BiFest - working from 11.30am until 7pm on Saturday :( Can't cancel it as the kiddies' exams start in a couple of weeks.

Are you staying in London overnight on Saturday? Would be nice to see you on Sunday?

i've been poorly so we going to be takeing it very easy and drive in/out of london on saturday and be all restful. Is there any chance you could come to the evening of bifest? (i know that's prolly a silly question and you'll need to chrash after teaching all day but it would be very cool to see you - hopefully it will work out that we'll all be in the same place somewhen)

It's actually worth buying a few of the "premix" packets as well as making up your own combinations of bread + stuff. I find the crusty white bread from premixes (i.e. complete other than water) comes out much nicer than my own, even when I add extra vit C, gluten and the like.

A couple of my favourite recipes: add a GOOD handful of sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and poppy seeds for a lovely granary bread. My favourite sweet ones involve combinations of maple syrup or honey instead of sugar, and dried apricots / blueberries / cherries / dates and so on with a generous dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.
