The world's gone insane, the world is a gutter.

If anyone else quotes fucking Nostradamus at me, I am going to go mad.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about: "In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb" , "The third big war will begin when the big city is burning"- Nostradamus 1654.

If Nostradamus was so great, how come he predicted the end of the world happening on no less than 8 different dates, all of which have now passed?

can't be talking about NYC anyway

I listened to my own beliefs about Nostradamus once. Never again. I believed, quite sincerely that the world was going to end in July 1999 (just after I graduated). It didn't help me through the horrible depression I suffered in my final year, as I was convinced it was all pointless. I won't listen to Nostradamus now.

from the age of 6 onwards (when my evil aunt gave me a book about nostradamus) to 1999 i believed the world was going to end before i reached my 25th birthday. i now assume he just got the date wrong. yes, i wish i'd never read this information, because i've spent a lot of the intervening years believing nothing mattered because my life would be over before i got to do anything. unfortunately i don't see myself stopping believing in it anytime soon.

Eeek, 6 is definitely too young to read anything like that :( I read three books of his prophecies when I was 13 (for a project I was doing at school), and was scared even then. *hugs*

Liam is still missing :/

This link (http://www.ed.brocku.ca/~nmarshal/nostradamus.htm) (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] marnanel) comments on that specific prophecy.

It must be said my first reaction to most Nostradamus things these days is "is it a genuine one, or one of the ones made up by people over the years and attributed to him.

If you make a vague statement and then it sits around for several hundred years, eventually someone will be able to fit it to something.

Holy City?

Even, it seems, if it doesn't actually fit very well.

Hooray for snopes.
