Claustrophobia

Sooo... I'm currently sitting in the hotel room with a wheelchair with a flat tyre. For me personally, this is among the most frustrating things I can think of that could happen while travelling. Any kind of wheelchair breakage renders me basically stuck in the hotel. I suppose I could limp down to Reception and get a taxi somewhere, but that's money I don't have and a serious amount of limping. Normally, I'm just using the wheelchair because I get exhausted when walking long distances. Today, my left knee has decided to act up and it's a struggle just to get from the bed to the bathroom. Argh!

But this hotel is amazing. One of the things about staying in a fancy hotel is that they bend over backwards to help. Reception sent up a Maintenance guy who listened to Richard and came back with the tools he needed to get the wheel apart. Except we still don't have a bicycle pump.

Sigh.

I have a phenomenal sense of deja vu, and you have my profound empathy. (The last night of the 2009 Worldcon - in Montreal - I managed to back into a sharp-enough corner on my scooter that it popped the tire. Our hotel inflated it while gridlore and I had dinner, but it was flat again by the time we were done - meaning we were stuck in the room on the one night we had hoped to finally hit the party hotel together.)

Is obviously different but when the Smalls were smaller #1's buggy had inflatable tires and got a puncture the evening before we we're due to go home from PolyFamily Holiday - just after any vaguely local bike shops would have closed. conflux improvised a patch using my pencil-case made from recycled car tires!

Search for local cycling groups in Montreal and ask on twitter if anyone has a pump in the area?

Hope it's sorted now! Was wondering whether you were back yet. Probably not, as you posted this yesterday. Good luck with travel when you do come back. May still be a tube strike next week between Tues evening and Friday morning ...
