An amusing conversation from the other day (which I can now post, as [livejournal.com profile] meeping and [livejournal.com profile] gerwinium have been given their presents):
[livejournal.com profile] baratron: "Should I wrap Tim & Peter's t-shirts together with their calendar, or in separate parcels?"
[livejournal.com profile] wuzzie: "You should wrap them so there are an even number of packages, as there are an even number of Tims and Peters."
[livejournal.com profile] baratron: "Eh? There's an odd number of Tims and an odd number of Peters...?"
[livejournal.com profile] wuzzie: "Yes, but there's an even number of (Tims and Peters)."
[livejournal.com profile] baratron: "I don't think that's right. I think you mean there's an even number of (Tim and Peter)s."
[livejournal.com profile] wuzzie: "But there's only one (Tim and Peter)."
[livejournal.com profile] baratron: "Hrm. I'm still not happy with saying there's an even number of (Tims and Peters), though."
[livejournal.com profile] wuzzie: "OK. How about 'there's an even number of (Tims or Peters)'? As there is one Tim, who is a (Tim or Peter), and one Peter, who is a (Tim or Peter). So together there are two (Tims or Peters)."
[livejournal.com profile] baratron: "Hmm. I suppose that works."

(I wrapped the presents so that there were four packages, consistent with the even number of (Tims or Peters). But then I wrote the card for the two of them, which brought us back to an odd number. Oops.)

Today Richard has been at the Model Engineer Exhibition. He was Exhibit #356. He was attending with Exhibits #244 and 245. Exhibit #245a (accessory: one wife) had to stay at home to look after #27, who is a fine example of early 20th century engineer, but unfortunately too elderly to travel now.

(I can't have been the only person to read its title as an exhibition of model engineers, not for them?)

The flat is now even more full of heavy greasy bits of metal than it was before. We need to move.
