Lovely bedroom, I can imagine some ppl use the Sims as an interior design inspiration as well. ;-)

In the cupboard at the end of the bed, under the bed, and in the front room :) They have a run of bookcases elsewhere in the house, as well as a lot more musical instruments & equipment.

Don't worry, my sims are not short of things to read :)

Thanks. I'm not used to bedrooms without bookcases.

One of the problems with The Sims (both the original and Sims 2) is that people who make custom recolours of bookcases tend to make ONE recolour of each bookcase. I generally always put bookcases in pairs, at least (unless the sims are very poor), but I feel it looks weird to have two bookcases that also contain identical books. It looks like you've bought the books by the yard to fill the space, rather than acquired them slowly to match your interests. The other option - having mismatching bookcases so the books look different - is something I don't particularly care for - I like the shelves to at least be the same colour, if not style.

But you try explaining to the custom content creators (many of whom don't speak English as their first language) that you want them to recolour the BOOKS rather than just the shelves! Most people can't understand why anyone would ever want multiple bookcases, because most people don't build realistic sim houses. An acquaintance of mine from the forums puts a four-poster bed, piano and hot tub in every single bedroom she builds!! All her houses cost ridiculous amounts of money and she uses the motherlode cheat (that adds $50,000 to the family's funds) constantly. In contrast, I often get comments about how "small" and "cluttered" my houses are, because I build what I consider to be realistically-proportioned houses/rooms with things like the number of bookcases I would expect a real-life geek's house to contain. (Fair enough, if I'm decorating a house for a flightly, not very intellectual sim he or she might only have one small bookcase in the whole place - but if the sims are geeks, they must have many many books!).

In this case, with simkasson being a music geek, his room is cluttered with musical accessories - CDs and music magazines, and the iPod, speakers and synthesizer. There are a few books visible on shelves, but I figured that only his most important books would be in the bedroom - everything else would be in the front room where there's a comfortable sofa to sit on & read. That's how it is in our house - there's a pile of the books that we're currently reading (one under my bedside table and the other actually in Richard's bed), but all of our books "live" permanently in the front room or the study. We have a long way to go before we have acquired the collection of Richard's parents, where there were bookshelves on every available wall, including the bathrooms :)
