baratron: (what's this?)
I just went to the bathroom, and on the way, saw a beetle.

irc log from #soc.bi:
astra:      ewww, there is a beetle in our house. it is a long, narrow beetle, about 2cm long x 0.7cm wide. it is black. it has 6 legs, like all beetles, which finish fairly far up its body.
astra:      do i need to panic? :D
HoopyCat:   i bet it's crunchy and yummy
RedWine:    astra: dunno. do you have any pets smaller than the beetle?
astra:      richard was talking about seeing a beetle shaped like that in the street yesterday, and he thought it was a cockroach - that's why i'm now panicking a bit
astra:      but, uh, it doesn't look like the cockroaches in the sims or in animal crossing, so i'm guessing it probably isn't
Don't worry entomophobics - there's no photos )

So, on Friday I am going to see a man about a tricycle, and if all goes well, I will be the owner of two tricycles for a couple of weeks. That's until my mum finishes her hydrotherapy course at the hospital and is cleared for exercise, when I will give her my current trike along with a course of cycling lessons.

So if anyone's wondering whether a tricycle could be the solution to their $Problem (whatever the problem is), come and visit me sometime during the next couple of weeks. We can take the trikes down to the park by the river where there are tarmaced paths, gravel paths and grass, plus flat bits and mildly hilly bits, and you can see if it works for you. My current trike is adjustable to a range of heights, although anyone much under 5'0" or over 5'9" will have trouble. (One of the reasons I'm getting a new one is to deal with the fact that, even pulled as far forward as they can possibly go, the handlebars are a bit too far away to be comfortable for prolonged use.) If you feel brave enough to deal with traffic, we have a range of roads from extremely quiet (less than 1 car per minute) to extremely busy (Kingston one-way system).

Anyone interested?

Animator vs. Animation by Alan Becker. Amusing Flash video. Requires Flash, has sound. Was today's Link Of The Day on User Friendly, so you might want to give it a few days before going there to save the poor guy's bandwidth.

Improv Everywhere. Crazy people. Includes The Amazing Stuntmen, Look Up More, Even Better Than The Real Thing, and Cell Phone Symphony. Celebrity Trash is noticeable for the fact a real celebrity got involved, while Aspen made me fall over laughing about halfway down when the "Meet a Black Person" sign came out. Also features many missions on subway trains in New York.

Check out all the missions, but don't blame me if you spend hours here. I just spent an hour & a half myself, and I read quickly.
