Today we bought a breadmaker, an ice cream maker, and some new vitreous enamel baking sheets to replace the crappy non-stick ones we've had for the past n years. The breadmaker we wanted was out of stock, but it's coming on Friday. THE EXCITEMENT!! We got the super de-luxe model with a separate compartment that'll toss fruit or nuts or chocolate chips into the dough halfway through, so it'll be very good for making low-fat dessert bread, which is basically what I want it for (dessert bread and pizza dough).

Now Richard is washing down walls, and I'm painting the damn shelves. The ones we've had since we moved in, that I half-painted last year ;) Later on I'm going to check my vegan ice cream book to see whether it has a mint chocolate chip ice cream recipe, and if not google for one :D

Arthur- Are you HM '60? If you are, I often speak of you to my wife as the brightest in our class and up there with Saul Kripke etc. Remember me? Senior Class president ( you said you voted for me and that meant a lot. Let me know. Larry Ross

Somehow, I don't think this is aimed at me. I'm not called Arthur, and I wasn't even alive in 1960. Possibly you're looking for [livejournal.com profile] supergee? Or maybe not.

Should I get you and Richard a copy of "The Stepford Wives?" Should we be worried that pods have taken up residence in your flat?

What a fantastically straigforward idea to make your own, if you're having all these problems with allergies. Now all you need is enough time, LOL!

That's me, and I do remember you. Why is the message here?

Eh, we've been wanting a breadmaker since Tim & Peter got one. They bring it round some weekends so we can make pizzas, but obviously it's a hassle for them to have to do that. Last weekend I made pretzel dough in their breadmaker, and it was so much easier than making it by hand I decided we HAD to buy one of our own - right away. The ice cream maker was an impulse purchase, because it was £30 and makes ice cream or sorbet in 30 minutes (supposedly). If I can get it to work well with the various recipes in my vegan ice cream book, then I'll have mint chocolate chip ice cream again. If I lived in the US and could buy Soy Delicious this wouldn't be a problem, but as it is...

The other thing we need to buy fairly soon is a full size food processor. We have a little Braun Multiquick we use for milkshakes, but it can't process large quantities of liquid like you'd need for soups or stews. I quite like making homemade soup & stew when I have the time to do so, and it freezes pretty well, thus making the ideal microwave ready-meal for someone who has too many food intolerances to just buy ready-meals from the supermarket.

I don't think any of this is particularly pod-people-y. I mean, surely a perfect Stepford Wife would make her bread dough herself from scratch? Whereas a domesticated geek just tosses the ingredients into a handy machine to do most of the work ;)

Lack of familiarity with lj, I'm guessing? I notice he didn't leave a contact email address, so I'm not quite sure how you're supposed to get in contact with him to say hello. Oh well.

I shall dig in my differently organized study and try to find my class list from the alumni office.
