Argh. There really is nothing like arriving at a large station like St Pancras and discovering that the train you thought was 13:36 is in fact 13:26, and instead of being pleasantly early, you need to get to the platform NOW.

Why on Earth do I always read that as 'St. Pancreas'?

Probably because "Pancras" is a really unusual name? I mean, I have never heard of anyone called "Pancras" other than the saint who eponymised the station. And, in fact, I've never heard of "St Pancras" in any other context than that station and district of London...

A quick wiki search reveals that there were apparently two Pancrases (which is a weird derivative of 'Pancratius' actually) who got the status of saints. Typically for random religious figures that no one ever heard of, One got stoned, the other lost his head.

The train station is named after the one who got stoned (Must have said 'Jehovah' next to the wrong people). The one who lost his head is apparently grouped with a number of other saints as something called the "Ice Saints" - which to me sounds like some kind of a pop group fronted by god damn Elsa, but that's just me. (I could milk that joke but it's probably a good idea to just let it go put it on ice).

But yeah. Apparently Pancreases are somewhat less rare than one might think (but only slightly). Now all we need is a St. Spleen and a new reign of terror could begin.
