Oh my God!

I just looked out the window. There is a 2cm layer of snow on the ground. This wouldn't be noteworthy in many other parts of the world, but it never snows in London. We have our own microclimate here, and the temperature simply does not get cold enough for snow. Occasionally we get the sort of snow that melts as soon as it touches the ground, but this has settled - not just on cars, but on the pavement and the grass.

Oh my God! Snow!!

I remember that it did snow in London once back in the late 1980s, and stay settled on the ground for at least one day ... I was saddened by how dirty the snow got. As someone said just recently on LJ, I wanted to repatriate the snow to the countryside where it belonged.

Yay snow!

We've got about 15" of the stuff lying around, and I'd be more than happy to send you my share: the logistics are a bit difficult though.

Was it the dry fluffy kind, or was it the wet sticky kind (what kids here call "packing snow")?

New snow always feels a bit magical to me, (and I've lived 42 winters in places where snow was expected). I can't imagine how exciting it must be to get snow in a place where it's unusual!

We've got anywhere from a foot to two feet of snow here. We haven't had this much snow (that stayed longer than a day) in *years*. It's almost like when I was a kid and could go build snow forts and what not.

I'll bring some snow with me when I'm over in Feb/March... ;-)

Snow!

It settled everywhere in SE London... The entrance to our flat is covered in a layer of very slippery ice which can only be walked on in the fashion of the penguin (even now in the evening!). I had much fun cycling to work this morning as one of the roads up here had turned into an ice rink, filled with cars that didn't dare/weren't able to move. On the plus side, it looks very pretty :).
