It turns out that going to see the Wildhearts yesterday was the best thing to do. I'm now in a much, much better mood than I was then.
I met up with Lizz in Ed's diner on Old Compton Street, and we went up to the Forum together. We found a nice spot on the stairs on the right-hand side with a clear view of the stage, and proceeded to enjoy ourselves thoroughly. I'm glad I'd seen the band at Cambridge already so I could hear how good it was to have CJ back, as where we were standing this time the sound of fans' voices singing along almost drowned out the band's vocals. There's something quite emotional in being surrounded by other people who all know every word to every song.
Richard says that the set-list was identical to what they played in Cambridge. I can't be sure, but I know I was very pleased with what got played. A whole bunch of songs about surviving, living, getting through the bad times, from Greetings from Shitsville to 29 x The Pain. And I find myself inspired to pick myself up again, dust myself off, and wade back into the fray. And I know there's a bunch of people out there who won't let Danny die, damnit. The Wildhearts and their fans are survivors. That's why we do what we do.
So I'm not suicidally depressed on my birthday, after all. I've got a job application to fill in (I found out I could submit it online), and I've got to have a bath before we go out for dinner tonight, and the rest of the day is mine to do what I want with.
