further teeth
Oct. 17th, 2004 08:14 pmOther sources of pissed-off-ness in my life:
T-Mobile, who are bastard spammers of a different order. This is a more complicated issue that would require friends-only-ness to go into. But believe me, it's annoying.
Twonkyvision, a.k.a. the linux server for the Netgear MP3 player-that-plugs-into-a-proper-stereo thing that Richard bought. It is complete and utter pants. Bastard thing crashes at least every 6 songs, if not more often. It also removes a lot of the bass from tracks, which isn't so bad with perky synthpop but is bloody annoying with punk or METAL!! We know it is the software at fault not the hardware, because Richard installed the corresponding Windows server under WINE, and it played the MP3s flawlessly, complete with bass, and didn't actually crash.
We can't run the player using the Windows server, though, because a) Windows is evil and more importantly, b) we have a network and it can't cope with files that are on non-local drives.
I would just like to be able to hear more than half a song at a time! Argh!!
And I hate being in a bad mood because there are many things in my life that are not crap, such as we have a wonderful house which is amazingly more tidy than before the party?!, and we had a great party last night with extremely cute and sexy people, and the house is still full of interesting people and things. But I'm all full of growl and teeth and I need to get it out.
Apparently I have to stop ranting now because Richard wants to eat dinner and I'm stopping him doing that :)

Date: 2004-10-19 01:00 am (UTC)I'm not sure how recently she last called you, but I finally got off my arse and organised a card & present myself last week. She should've got the card by Wednesday and the present by Friday, even allowing for the vagaries of the Royal Mail (actually, the present was going via a courier who are pretty reliable at getting stuff to me). If she's spoken to you since then, I might have to chase up the people I bought the chocolate from and find out if they think it got delivered or not. Maybe they didn't attach the note properly, or maybe she just didn't see it *mumble*.
Dunno why she doesn't have our address - we sent everyone a change of address card (ironically, except you, because we didn't/don't know where you were/are living), and besides, the old address still works. Also we have had the same home and mobile phone numbers for years now (although our home number is the most useless thing imaginable for actually getting to talk to either of us). Hrm. Well, I'll point Richard at this comment, but I don't know what he'll say - earlier when I suggested he call her to apologise he said that whenever he tries talking to her on the phone he just spends the whole phone call spelling out his name extremely loudly and getting extremely frustrated. I can't call because she can't understand me when I sit right next to her, so I dread to think what it'd be like on the phone.
One of my email addresses is public on my userinfo btw (and all my email addresses end up at the same place anyway). Anything @helen-louise.net is also me (but a lot of those addresses are heavily spam filtered, so you'd have to come up with something suitably bizarre for me to see it). Both mine & Richard's "real" email addresses are the same as they've been for the past, er, 7 1/2 years (yikes! that's a long time in internet terms!), although that probably doesn't help as I know I don't know most people's email addresses off by heart (the exceptions being people with personal domains and
i am a squid, which is just too weird to forget).no subject

Date: 2004-10-22 03:34 pm (UTC)In future I will clearly have to waste large amounts of time getting companies to send the present here first, then wasting money on more postage so it gets sent with OUR return address on it... :/

Date: 2004-10-19 01:41 am (UTC)Last time I tried phoning her I got about 3 attempts into getting my name across before she gave up and hung up. Trying to do this from work would probably make me about as popular as the guy who listens to his voicemail on speakerphone.
And I protest - I was prodding h-l about it since late September because she had the book with the dates of everyones' birthdays in and I wasn't sure it was Grandma's birthday in October and not somebody elses, which would have made sending her a birthday card look a bit silly. Except that the book has gone missing. Sounds like we still beat everyone else to it in the end.
p.s. I'll be less incoherent in a couple of days when I'm not ill.
