gaming rant & hypocrisy

No, no, no, no, no. I am SO NOT going to get into a rant about The Sad State of Modern Gaming, and how the only games in the shops are sequels of sequels. No, no, no.
For a start, I'd be a total hypocrite, considering I was in the games shop to buy... an expansion pack for Sims 2.
And I mean, Nintendogs. That's innovative.
And Okami. Whenever that comes out here, I'll be first in the queue to buy it. You play a female wolf who, in addition to all the normal wolfy attacks, does calligraphy with her tail. If that doesn't have omg the perfect game for h-l written all over it, I don't know what does.
And besides, I'm not even buying games at the moment. I've still got to finish the Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker, Spyro 5, Sly Raccoon 2... and I haven't even started Ratchet & Clank 3 yet. And Pokemon XD's coming out here in two weeks time, and I don't even think I ever finished Colosseum! ARGH!
Sometime I need to poke at why I still get excited by Pop'n Music 20billionth mix, yet am always disappointed to see, e.g. Jak & Daxter Sequels. Even though the original Jak & Daxter was actually a really good game. I even get annoyed that Insomniac is still working on more bloody Ratchet & Clank, even though I've very happily put 160 hours of my life into the first two. Got to be something interesting there. Maybe the issue is that everybody knows a new version of an old rhythm action game is just the old game with new songs, whereas a platform or adventure game needs to have a story and new features, and if any of those are missing or disappointing, you feel like you've wasted your money?
Hmmm.

Date: 2005-11-04 03:59 am (UTC)I do have way too many games to finish to consider picking up any more right now, anyway. The next couple I get will be Pokemon XD and Guitar Hero (the new Harmonix game). After that, I dunno.
