I am very unhappy because of livejournal technical issues. I have a horrible feeling the only solution is going to be "delete that journal and start over with a new name, and wait for that one to get deleted so you can rename to it" :(

But I am slightly cheered to discover that my regular journal is on the Soybean cluster! Could there be a more appropriate cluster for me if you tried?!

It's been a while since I did LJ support stuff, but yes, that's essentially the answer - you can't post backdated entries to a community (the theory is that communities are for discussion of events happening now) and you can't change a community back into a personal journal. To be honest, I wouldn't bother with the rename, just create yourself a new journal with a similar name - 'baratrontales' for instance, isn't registered, and go from there.

Eurgh, I don't like baratrontales at all :/ My tail is the thing at the base of my spine that shows what kind of mood I'm in and how likely I am to bite you.

I just wish there'd been some WARNING that there were normal journal features you can't use in a community. On the Community FAQ, it doesn't tell you that. You have to go to the "backdate entries" FAQ page before it mentions that you can't use it in a community. That's backwards. It should be referred to in both places.

Yeah, it was just a stab at having a look for other possible names - I suspect (but I've not checked) that most 'baratron*****'s will be available.

*nods* - LJ documentation is like that in places:-( - mainly because it's maintained by people who know their way around it inside out and it's hard to know where people who don't know it will look for particular information. If you want to suggest that the backdating thing is added to one of the communities FAQs post in [livejournal.com profile] lj_userdoc.

I've worked out how to do it, now.

I've set up a third account :)
