I got my "dissertation" in on time. It is pretty awful due to the fact that 2/3 of it was written today. Apparently I went completely overboard and read 70 references before I started writing anything. And then didn't have enough time to include all of the interesting things I found out. Bah. I didn't even have time for childish livejournal posts in which I giggled about "molecular surface matching of knobs and holes" or the method called SPERM (Superposition by PERMutations)!

Still, it is done and I don't have to worry about it any more. Just wish I'd had the weekend to finish it off, even if Sunday is my birthday. (I'd rather have spent my birthday writing a dissertation so it was finished properly than have handed it in rushed and not very finished. Yes, I am strange.) At least it's crap because I didn't have enough time, rather than because that was the best I could manage...

I felt much the same about my diss and came out with 60%, which scrapes a 2:1. I imagine you managed to communicate the outlines at least of your ideas, which will be good.

Would you appreciate some hand=knitted socks as a birthday present? I'm hooked on some Regia yarn designed by Kaffe Fasset at the moment - see http://www.modernknitting.co.uk/regia-kaffe-fassett-sock-yarns-17077-0.html for colours - the Exotic colours do a great wave effect ... see http://www.mcadirect.com/shop/regia-exotic-design-line-ply-p-2624.html for picture of the effect. If you would like a pair email me and I'll come back to you and let you know what measurements I need to make you a pair that will fit! (I'm conscious there may be issues about the fibre content of the yarn, so if it won't work for you, just let me know.)

Well done on getting it done, and you can now take the time to talk at random other instances about matching knobs/holes or SPERM. Have you got any tomorrow-related plans ? I should be doing last-minute-ish rocket stuff, but there's still procrastination space before deadlines, especially if there's some warning about things mid-week.

I somewhat doubt if it is as crap as you say it is.

If I remember (and understood) correctly, you didn't particularly need to know the stuff in this course or obtain particular grades, but were aiming to demonstrate that you can do academic stuff and work out which bits of chemistry you are more interested in. I can only judge from what you've written on LJ, but it seems you have demonstrated that you can do this stuff rather well (despite probably not having done as well as you could with one exam and the dissertation).

(And you seem to have mentioned SPERM and knobs and holes in this post, so that's done too, or was there more to say about them?)
