I've spent all the hours I've been awake today wrapping Christmas presents. I am now officially sick of Christmas.

Most of my friends hate the shopping part of Christmas. I, on the other hand, love it. I love choosing presents for people - picking the perfect gift for someone, or making a present if that would be more appropriate. I even spend time choosing something special for relatives that I'm obliged to give gifts to - if I'm going to spend money on them, I may as well get something appropriate.

What I hate is wrapping presents. Wrapping one present is just a pain. Wrapping many is tedious. And then wrapping them in protective packaging: bubble wrap and boxes, to keep safe in the post is just... mind-numbingly boring. Plus all the dust from the paper makes me wheeze. Blah.

I'd wrap your presents for you ....

if i lived in London! Not that i get creative with it or anything - simple straightforward rather butch packaging is what you get, but still. It's the shopping, selection, *having to* give presents angle of Christmas that used to upset me and is why I've largely opted out of the whole shebang these days. There's just so much crap in the shops! I can't believe how much money is wasted!

I practically never wrap presents; not only is it boring but I'm crap at it. I usually just give whatever the present is to its recipient by putting it in their hands. Then again, I don't do Xmas trees either, so there's no question about putting the gifts beneath it.

Xmas shopping for me is tomorrow. I'm using my last day's holiday from work this year.

well i don't like the shopping bit or the wrapping bit... mostly as I'm no good at either... fortunately there are few people that I exchange presents with, so it's not too bad...

in other news... I've failed to call you when I said I would again, haven't I? will do so soon...

Well, since I moved in with my current flatmates, I've got a lot more pragmatic about this stuff (following their lead). We don't normally wrap presents, just put them inside carrier bags - does the job of concealing the gift until it's opened, but very easy to wrap/unwrap. Similarly, we don't give each other cards at birthdays/Christmas. Trivia: originally, people used to send each other letters at Christmas. One year, Dickens said "I'm in a real rush, don't have time to write to everyone", so he sent little postcards out saying "Hi, hope you're well, will write properly soon". And it caught on... But if you're seeing the person that day, then you don't really need a letter or card. Admittedly, this is mainly due to student poverty, so WWW cards do come in handy as an alternative :)

I love wrapping presents. Too bad it'd be ridiculous for me to do yours.
