bad-tempered misinterpretation

I saw a sig file which reads: "There is a flame lurking within all of us deep in our souls trying to escape. All you have to do is reach down, far below the surface and bring it out into the world like a new-born child in the palm of your hand." What does it say about either me or the company I keep that I read that as "flame" in the sense of flaming an idiot?

well whatever it says, I just did exactly the same thing reading that. I guess it just makes sense really - the word "flame" in the context of newsgroup/email is probably more likely to have that meaning...

hey, i read it the same way, and i am not in a bad mood at all. i think it says we-all who have misread it like that have hung out a goodly amount of time on usenet. :)

I read it the same way, but I'm not sure if that's because your subject line gave me a steer (or perhaps because the word "flamewar" featured in the post I read immediately before yours).

Just - thanks for posting that. I really did laugh out loud ... and I must be the odd one out cos I had to think about what you wrote before getting it. I did think the idea of giving birth to a flame a little odd though - and painful, I should expect! Good job we don't usually give birth by reaching inside and pulling ... ewww ...

I don't know, but I read it the exsact same way. Actualy I think I may take just the first sentance to be my sig for a while. I need a new one.
