hole in the road
Jun. 26th, 2003 12:53 pmThey're digging the road up outside our flat. Not immediately outside, but close enough that noise comes in even with the windows closed. Grrr. I'm wondering how much longer I can stand it. Seriously contemplating grabbing the laptop and going up to the library to get away from it. I'm just not sure I want to travel for an hour with a heavy bag just to go somewhere quieter. And I can't think of anywhere apart from an academic library that would be quieter than here. The local public library is quite noisy, with people walking in and out and the beep of the barcode scanners, and coffee shops either have music or people talking or both.

Date: 2003-06-26 05:50 am (UTC)I tried earplugs, but the cheap nasty ones my mum had made my ears hurt and gave me a constant whooshing sound for the 5 minutes I could bear to try them. They have temporarily stopped drilling, so I'm running all my data so that I can just go if I have to.

Date: 2003-06-26 05:57 am (UTC)I'm sensitive when it comes to earplugs as well, but the ones I can really recommend are these soft ones (http://www.quies.com/mainprod2.htm). They are £1.99 for 3 pairs - absolutely comfortable and soundtight. You may have to try a few chemists for them though.
