I am mostly not writing in livejournal because my wrists hurt. This is also my excuse for not replying to email. Have overused my wrists immensely as I was getting my thesis done and now I really need to rest them. The problem is, absolutely everything I like to/need to do involves using my wrists. Even reading seems to use a lot of wrist action (holding the book, turning the pages). And I have to do a fair bit of typing at work.

I have neoprene wrist supports which look stupid but are stronger than Tubigrip and don't cause latex allergy, but they don't help much. Or rather, I hurt so much/they are so weak that even with supports they are still crap. Short of getting a slave to do everything for me, I'm not sure what I can do. No, this isn't a request for advice, random joint pain is just part of my life, I'll make adjustments and consult a professional if it doesn't improve soon.

When I'm in that state I read on screen with the font turned up to 200%, using a wheel mouse on a USB extension cord or a radio mouse if I can afford the batteries and/or don't have an extension cord handy. There's a surprising abount of good short fiction (and a few novels too) out there on creative commons license.

Hope this helps.

I get awful random joint pain when I'm cold...and other times my arms just start hurting, but good lucka nd don't push it too hard lest you really damage something.

My friend did that whilst working on a painting too much, of all things.

too much wrist action .... mmmm ... you know what that makes me think of ... but more seriously, have you got/could you use voice recognition software so you could talk your posts at the PC? My friend Lonnie used to use it all the time with his AppleMac, and that was five or more years ago now ... just a thought.

Big hugs!

sorry to ask stupd questions but are your desk/ chair at the right height?
for the longest time I had been leaning my arms on the desk and typing not realising that that was very bad
Now i have an adjustable desk I am learning to type with keyboard close to me and the keyboard below my hands so that my arms are in relaxed resting state when I type. Mind you its very strange to have my hands so close to my stomach
anyhow best of luck

Maybe an ergonomic keyboard would work, like one of the M$ bendy ones? I've not tried them myself and I think they very much require touch-typing capability. Otherwise touch typing is better for your wrists anyway, as it involves typing from a base position, rather than hovering over the keyboard (I can't remember if you touch-type or not)
