baratronToday is a special day for me. Something important in my life happened on 20th October 1983.
What was it?

alexmc's assertion that I was seven years & four months old may be relevant (the seven years part at least). Quite a few people clearly had no idea how old I was in 1983, which is amusing as my full date of birth is on my userinfo (I figured everyone would cheat and look at that first!).
Further update (as still no one's got it): What can little girls (specifically girls) do at the age of 7 that they can't do before their seventh birthday?

No, it was definitely something that was important to me at the time.
