OH MY GOD I AM SUCH A GEEK
Mar. 7th, 2005 11:58 pmRandom stuff I have been wondering from the Pokeschool forums... see message #15 where I start blethering about Pokemon DNA, mitosis, chromosome number and atomic structure. Argh!
Also, I would just like to say that polyploidy in plants is extremely freaky.

Date: 2005-03-08 02:25 am (UTC)Sugarcane isn't 8n. Some of its chromosomes are 8n, others are 10n, 12n, and 14n. Also this depends on the cultivar (strain of sugarcane). I knew a bit about tetraploids and hexaploids when I read my first sugarcane genetics paper, but my head was hurting after one and a half pages.
The technical term for different copy numbers is "aneuploid".
