Happy International Celebrate Bisexuality Day, everyone! For some reason it's called Bi Visibility Day in the UK - not sure whose idea that was (though, given that I know virtually all of the loud bi activists in the country, it was probably someone I know). Here's the list of UK events.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to any of them due to being chronically behind with my work :( Though if I do, it's a tossup between the London event at the Pembury Tavern (lots of people I know will be there, but it's hard to get to) versus the Brighton event (will have an [livejournal.com profile] artremis, almost easier for me to get to than north London). I always was bad at this kind of decision...

I forget where the rebranding started (it wasn't me...) but I think it tied to the idea that the new name made it easier for non-bi people to think they could help and get involved.

No, not me. I think possibly someone outside the UK started it and I may have been the first of "us" to start wittering about it, but it wasn't actually my idea.

Interesting. If I weren't bi, I think I might find "celebrate bisexuality" easier to help or get involved with than "bi visibility day," because I can celebrate something good or cool about people I know, but visibility might leave someone wondering whether "It's bi visibility day, so I'm going to tell my coworkers that my wife is bi" is appropriate.

Equally, if you were thinking of Doing An Event, it's easier to come up with ideas for visibility things than celebration things - the latter suggests you need a good few people and a budget for cake and partying; the former could just be deliberately wearing a bi lapel badge.

having a very quiet lurgified celebration of bisexuality here - poor David has just been diagnosed with tonsillitis and is stuffing penicillin, and I'm just really tired still after the weekend excitement at Bi Bi Baby! I've had a cold all week too but not too bad to go to work. Never mind, I get a day off tomorrow, time to catch up with voluntary work instead of paid work or housework!
