Also, in a moment of sheer idiocy which could probably be applied to any discipline, including fiction: I saw a reference to a book which I thought was interesting, went to the library website, saw they had one copy which is currently out, considered ordering it, looked up at my bookshelf and... oh.

Apparently, I already have it.

Please tell me you've done this too, so I feel less stupid.

A copy of the same book, or the library's copy of the book?

(I've done similar things before, including buying a third copy of the same book because I'd forgotten that I'd already forgotten that I had bought it, and so had inadvertently bought a duplicate).

Yep, done that.

My worst non-book equivalent was buying two copies of the same DVD.. at the same time. They were along with 38 others and they did have different covers, but still...

I once bought two issues of the same edition of Private Eye on two different occasions, and didn't realise until I was several pages into the second copy that I'd already read it.

There are several books that I have bought multiple copies of... (usually from second-hand markets though).

We sometimes find we have 3 copies of the same book in our house - each of us buying something without reference to the collection or each other's intentions! And that leaves out duplication with Mike's collection, which also happens, but is less of an issue as obviously when Lewisham provides him with a home of his own (don't hold your breath) he will need to move his books with him.
