Grant is visiting from the US. It's his first time out of North America and everything here is very very strange. He first got confused on the bus back from Heathrow because of how twisty the streets were, compared to the grid patterns that he's used to. "It's like driving around a Paisley!" he said.

We have done various things, including cuddling, eating, playing Elder Scrolls Online (Grant is such a nerd that he brought his non-laptop computer. Yes, a mini tower) and looking at museums and other such tourist "attractions". I will write more about that when it's not 3 am and we're not supposed to be up in the morning.

I'm sure that what you actually want to see are the pictures of us loving each other.

Yesterday was my 4th wedding anniversary with Richard and our 18th anniversary of being together. Richard bravely staggered out of bed where he was busy dying of the man-flu, and we put on fancy clothes and went out to the Secret Surprise I had booked. This being vegan afternoon tea at La Suite West hotel, which is near Bayswater/Queensway.

... was lovely. Several things stood out about it, which included:

  • the very obvious, mutual, love and respect that the happy couple had for each other
  • the love and support of their respective families (I've never actually been to a wedding before where the parents were that involved with the proceedings)
  • the fact that each set of parents honestly believed they were welcoming their child's partner into the family
  • the fact that the guests felt honoured to be invited, while the hosts felt honoured that we'd come
  • the excellent hotel catering - I've never been to an event that catered so well for vegans
  • Jennifer [livejournal.com profile] memevector/Single Bass's excellent choice of songs

I cried buckets. And it was all good.

Frubbly isn't even the word for it. I feel... as though it's reaffirmed my faith in human nature, and pointed out beauty in the world.

[livejournal.com profile] firecat pointed me at Blogging Against Disablism day. How come I didn't hear of this before it happened? Gah. Here are some comments from the posts that firecat thought were particularly interesting or informative. I'm going to have to read my way through the whole lot myself, now. Well, that'll keep me amused the next time I'm at home, depressed & ill :)

One of the things about this past weekend is I realised how many thoroughly decent people I have in my life. At various points in the weekend, I was there with both of my gorgeous partners, Richard & Alexa; my lovely tocotox, ludy; my best friends, Tim & Peter; and of course, the amazingly talented Freezepop - as well as [livejournal.com profile] taimatsu, [livejournal.com profile] barty and [livejournal.com profile] cryx. I spent the whole weekend surrounded by beautiful, intelligent people who care about me.

So I have this wonderful "little" collection of health problems. I have to deal with pain and exhaustion and having to conserve my energy; remembering to take drugs on time, and being horribly sick if I forget; and not being able to go out and do things that other, "normal" people my age can. Of course it gets me down sometimes. I have attacks of really bad depression and woe, but the fact is I have: two partners and a bunch of good friends who love me and are there for me.

If I am unlucky for having the health crap, I'm so lucky and blessed with the love I have. My life may suck, but it also rocks.

Today there were three geek boys on the bus having a conversation about some game they were playing, which was delightful to overhear. One of them was so cute and pretty, kinda like a younger version of Sean from Freezepop but with longer hair, and he was wearing the if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate t-shirt from toothpaste for dinner. So as we were getting off the bus at the terminus, I told him I liked his t-shirt. He gave me this amazing smile and said "Thank you!". I said "It's from toothpaste for dinner, I know", he replied "The most excellent web site!", and I carried on my way to work.

I hope that exchange made his day. It certainly made mine.

Andi (fluffKitten) has got her Civil Partnership visa! Already! She only put the paperwork in yesterday! (may be 2 days ago when you consider the time difference between here and .au).

So she's coming to the UK to marry [livejournal.com profile] wandra a.s.a.p. How cool is that?!

Happy Birthday to my metamour [*], the lovely [livejournal.com profile] rowan_leigh, someone I've known for 3 years now, and shared a partner with for well over 2. May this year be calm and peaceful for you, and may our relationship web continue to be a happy one.

[*] Partner's partner, or "partner-in-law".

Happy Valentine's Day to all my partners, loved ones and friends. I hope that wherever you are, you're aware of the love that I have for you, and the importance you have in my life. Whether you have a partner or partners at the moment or not, I hope that you feel wanted and appreciated.

A big Fuck You to the person or people who came into our garden sometime between 11am and 3.30pm and stole the single red rose that had been left on our doorstep by my mother. Fine, you wanted a rose to give someone and were too cheap to buy one. Did you have to steal the card from my mum as well? I hope the rose withers up and spreads greenfly all over your other plants. Asswipe.

Notice the complete difference in tone between the first two messages and the last one. Humph :)
