I don't want to go to work tomorrow. Waah.

For anyone who doesn't already know, I seem to have got myself into a weekly timetable whereby I'm working part time, but seven days a week. What's up with that? I'm just too popular, that's the problem :) On Sundays I have A-level students come to the house in the morning (£50 for getting up early seems worth it to me), during the week I do a couple of hours a day of one-to-one tutoring mostly in the kids' houses, but on Saturdays I'm at the college teaching classes from 10am to 4pm. Eurgh. I don't like teaching classes - it involves actual preparation of material and marking and being awake and dressed in smart clothes and...

ok, you got me. This is a whine :) Of course I don't really hate teaching at the college - if I did, I wouldn't do it. But it's just about 10 times more stressful than teaching at home, and it involves morning, and I feel as though I'm going down with something (sneezy, and absolutely ravenously hungry). And I really hate having to go to bed early on a Friday night because I've got to work on a Saturday morning! (Notice that I've entirely failed to do that, again). Waah.

Am I allowed to say that I'm impressed by you teaching. (Its not that I didn't think that you can do it - I'm just impressed by anyone's ability to teach).

I'd worry though about working *seven* days a week. I try it sometimes and can't keep it going very long.

I'm working 22 hours a week - it's just spread over 7 days. That's about as much work as I can handle. In some ways I prefer it being this spread out to working the equivalent of 3 full days - the fact that a fair bit of my teaching is done in the student's house also makes it seem varied.

I dunno - I find teaching easy. Give me something I understand and enough time to explain it properly, and it's the most natural thing in the world. I knew I'd cracked it the first time I had to explain something I'd always found difficult at school and never fully understood - and found the explanation suddenly all made sense and I could see it clearly enough to teach it to others. What I found hard about regular school teaching was the extent to which being in front of 30 kids was a management job. I have NEVER wanted to be a manager! I found that in a typical hour-long lesson I was imparting knowledge for maybe 5 minutes, and spending the remaining 55 just trying to keep order. I couldn't handle it - it drove me nuts.

I'll probably write more about it in my other journal - if/when I ever get round to updating it :)
