No, woman with a pushchair and no baby in sight, you DON'T get to make me feel guilty for being in the Priority Wheelchair Space. "That thing" is already as pushed over as it goes,
and I'm well within the blue lines. It's not my fault if your pushchair doesn't fold.

Gosh. If there's no baby in the pushchair, it doesn't need to BE in a particularly safe spot, surely?

It needs to be where it won't get in the way of people trying to get on or off a busy bus, which is basically just the wheelchair/buggy space. If there's no room for their buggy then, officially, their options are get back off the bus and wait for one with room or... nope just that.

I absolutely loathe with a fiery passion people who take non-folding buggies on buses. And yes, the amount of privilege check lots of people-with-buggies need is absolutely ridiculous.

And TfL drivers can only ask nicely, they can't/won't enforce it. I'm arguing with them about it at the moment as I think if you wouldn't drive on with a smoker on the bus why should you drive on with a disablist person hogging the wheelchair space. Am awaiting another round of response.

There's a big ad campaign atm with posters at most London bus stops saying 'there's only one wheelchair space on the bus - fold your buggy if a wheelchair user needs it'. Which is a welcome sign of spending cash on the issue, but I haven't established if someone who gets off the bus with their buggy to let a wheelchair on can get a transfer ticket, which is the usual cause of aggro when I've seen it.
The driver should do the same as when people nip in the middle doors without paying - turn off the engine and refuse to move. Though not at all surprised some don't. Or decide to drive off rather than wait for someone to get bags off their buggy, find someone to hold the child, fold buggy, push back to the luggage shelf with it, get it stowed safely, then let w/c on...

Let's just say I've been on about 8 bus rides a week, 400 a year, nigh on 5 years, and for those reasons have folded my buggy twice, getting shouted at by driver and/or pax - and waited for the next bus or walked, a couple hundred. And got off the bus a couple times for wheelchairs, once only a stop before my destination, other time I had Travelcard so not bothered about fare, but the sporty wc was so small the guy in it told me to get back on in next to him.
